6 Knott - location
A wonderful setting for a relaxing holiday.
1. Two and a half hours drive from Inverness (with railway station and airport, with direct flights to London and abroad).
2. Forty minutes from the Skye Bridge - offering road access to the Highlands and beyond.
3. Forty minutes from Armadale (ferry to Mallaig).
4. Four hours from Glasgow and Edinburgh.
5. 20 minutes from Portree (by bus and car). There are regular buses from Portree to Inverness, Edinburgh etc.
6. Two minutes walk to a cafe, open seven days a week, with home cooking (and internet/email access).
7. A few minutes walk to the sea shore - views over Loch Snizort.
8. Three miles from shop and pub with regular live music.
9. Three miles from a golf course and restaurant / tea room (Skeabost Hotel).

Seals can often be seen bobbing close to the sea shore, a few minutes walk from the croft house. (These pictures were taken from the sea shore a few minutes walk from the house, at about 9am on a cold, clear winter's morning.)

The seashore, minutes from croft, with miles of empty coast and beautiful walks,
Situated on the edge of a small crofting community, half way between Portree and Dunvegan, the croft is secluded and peaceful without being isolated.
It is accessible to many of the island's most popular attractions and only a few minutes walk along a quiet lane (and across a field) to the sea shore.
The safe, enclosed cove offers endless opportunities for seal and bird-watching (including the occasional sea eagle). The area also offers wonderful coastal walks and beautiful picnic spots.
Portree, the island's main town, is ten miles away. It has a range of shops, a picturesque harbour where freshly caught fish can be purchased, as well as pubs and restaurants. Portree's Eros visitor centre has a cinema, children's play space and popular family restaurant and shop. There is also a public swimming pool in Portree.
Approximately ten miles from the croft, in the other direction, is the village of Dunvegan. With its fairytale castle, world famous coral beaches and seal spotting boat trips, Dunvegan is the ideal location for a day trip (or two). The award-winning restaurant, the Three Chimneys, is just outside Dunvegan and there are a number of other well-regarded restaurants in the village itself.
The popular coastal hamlet of Stein is approximately ten miles away - with its pub (with sea front beer garden), diving centre, gift shop, art gallery and wonderful sea food restaurant, all within metres of the sea.
To help our guests find their way around this beautiful island we have compiled a comprehensive list of information, kept in the croft, about some of the best sights and walks available. From challenging walks in the Cuillin mountains to the long sandy beach at Glen Brittle, which is perfect for children, we recommend our favourite places to visit, both on and off traditional tourist routes.

More views, taken on a walk, 300 metres from the cottage, in early November.
